In search of flowers in the Northeast

A walk in the backyard:

Things are just starting to bloom in the northwest corner of Connecticut. The red fringe on the tops of the red maples in the picture at the top of the page are actually flowers. This is a macro photo of the small flowers, barely a quarter inch across. You can see the wings which will transport the seeds just emerging.
